Thank you for choosing Bleecker & Prince—this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship, one that can last a lifetime. I am a fine jewelry piece, handcrafted with the utmost precision. The artisans who created me poured their passion and energy into every detail, and now, I carry that energy to you.

You may have others like me, but let this be a gentle reminder that I require special care to maintain my beauty. Just like your home needs a refresh, your car needs maintenance, and life has its own way of reminding us to pause and tend to what we cherish—I, too, need your attention.

Storing Your Jewelry

Store fine jewelry securely in fabric-lined or leather-lined boxes, or wrap pieces in soft fabric to prevent scratches and damage.

Cleaning Your Jewelry

To clean your jewelry at home, polish it with a lint-free, 100% cotton cloth. A gentle cleaning using lukewarm water, natural dish soap, and a soft toothbrush is also effective. Always check the tightness of stones before and after cleaning, especially when using a steam cleaner.

For the beads, you can clean the hole using a cotton swab and baby or other natural oil. Just like a car needs maintenance treatments over the years, a house requires fresh paint, or our faces need regular skincare, your jewelry also requires care.

That's why we welcome you to bring your Bleecker & Prince jewel once a year for a free cleaning  and inspection.

Everyday Maintenance

Depending on your lifestyle, consider removing your jewelry during activities that may expose it to damage. Exercising, including cardio, yoga, swimming, and weightlifting, can put pressure on jewelry, bending metal or loosening stones.

Chlorinated water can also weaken settings and alter metal color. Showering and bathing expose jewelry to hard water, shampoos, and conditioners that create buildup behind settings, making pieces appear dull and discolored.

Sleeping can strain delicate pieces due to extended heat and pressure—keep a jewelry-safe container by your bed for overnight storage. Perfumes, lotions, and makeup can leave residue on jewelry, diminishing the brilliance of stones and requiring frequent cleaning. Cooking, baking, and dishwashing introduce debris into settings, dulling stones’ appearance. Cleaning with harsh chemicals like bleach can weaken settings and damage metals, leading to stone loss. Gardening tools can impact settings, even with gloves on, so removing jewelry beforehand prevents dirt buildup. Painting, pottery, or hands-on crafting should be done with jewelry safely stored away to avoid exposure to harmful materials.

Stone Collections

Bleecker & Prince has created a unique collection of natural stones, unlike any other brand. These stones have existed in this world long before us and carry with them individual powers and energies. We wanted these natural materials to touch your skin, with each gemstone bringing its own unique qualities.

Our artisans meticulously carve raw natural stones, smoothing them and shaping them into designs that sometimes incorporate other stones or diamonds. From one gemstone to another, they differ greatly, requiring special care and respect.

Hardness

Precious stones are rated on the Mohs scale from 1 to 10, with diamonds being the hardest at 10. Softer stones like opals (5-6.5) and turquoise (6) require extra care to prevent scratches.

Durability

Gemologists assess toughness (resistance to breaking) and stability (resistance to heat, light, and chemicals). However, no gemstone is indestructible. As delicate stones, they may suffer cracks or break if exposed to a hit or fall. In such cases, please reach out to us via email. While we do not glue a broken stone together, we will craft a brand-new one from scratch for you, with costs associated. We do not profit from these repairs; the charges are solely to cover materials.

We believe that these stones are not just beautiful, but also carry deeper meanings, making them an essential part of your life and jewelry collection.

Caring for Gold Pieces

Gold is a natural material that naturally evolves with time. Oxidation is part of this process and can be easily managed with regular care. Factors such as daily wear, moisture exposure, and contact with skincare products can speed up oxidation or dull the metal’s shine. While gold is durable, it's not indestructible. If you notice deep scratches, tarnishing, or significant changes, we recommend bringing your piece in for professional cleaning and maintenance.
